Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) On Black Star Reunion, Upcoming 'Top 40 Underdog' Project

Considered one of Hip-Hop's most talented representatives, Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) has enjoyed a robust career that has shown little in the way of a slowdown. Rejoining with fellow Brooklyn bomber Talib Kweli under the Black Star group banner, Yasiin Bey is now undertaking a new side musical project called'Top 40 Underdog' with an aim that matches the socially poignant rapper's flair for the provocative.

Speaking with Hypebeast, Bey revealed the impetus behind his upcoming 'Top 40 Underdog' project and what he hopes to achieve as a result of the music, which is simply Bey's take on modern day rap hits such as the recently released “Ni**gas In Poorest,” a redo of The Throne's “Ni**as In Paris”

“The tradition, taking someone's song and making your version of out of it, is not new to hip-hop,” said Bey. “It is similar to dancehall music, where there one rhythm and many artists offer their interpretation of it.”

Bey vaguely revealed some of the themes that will be present on Top 40 Underdog as well. “Regarding the content on the Top 40 Underdog, I cannot open up too much on it, but let's say it will not be just about reinterpreting or even re-appropriating modern day hits,” shared Bey. “It will deal with a range of various subjects, covering socially conscious and political themes since it is a staple in my life and an expression of who I am.”

Rap fans have been salivating at the news of the Black Star reunion, especially after the well-received, Madlib produced “Fix Up” track. Bey said the album is on the way but fans will need to exercise patience.

“We are in the studio all the time and we will continue putting out songs on a regular basis,” said Bey. “I appreciate the anticipation. Making an album is very time consuming and requires lots of energy. So yea, we are on the road and in the studio and we hope to get it out as soon as possible.”

Chad Ochocinco Buys Teammates $28K Worth Of Beats By Dre Headphones

Chad Ochocinco copped every one of his New England Patriots teammates Beats By Dre headphones, reports the Boston Herald. This Sunday will mark the wide receiver's first trip to the Super Bowl so he decided to drop about $28,000 to purchase the pricey headphones.

"Thanks ocho.. You the man," tweeted Patriots offensive lineman Nick McDonald, who also took a pic of his gift (see below).

The headphones, the Beats Pro model which cost about $400 each, are definitely a much better look than those Ugg boots Tom Brady outfitted the squad with.

Bow Wow Hit With $126K Tax Lien

Bow Wow's been eating good since he was about five years-old in this Hip-Hop game, so we're pretty sure this a minor oversight. But the YMCMB MC apparently owes the government $126,000.

The huge sum comes from not paying taxes in 2006, 2008 and 2010. I guess he used the same accountant as his big homey Jermaine Dupri who has had tax troubles of his own.

TMZ reports that there was a tax lien put on Bow Wow for $91,105.61 in the state of Florida in 2006 that still hasn't been taken care of. An additional lien was filed in Georgia claiming the rapper owes $15,279.62 for unpaid taxes in 2008 and another $19,700.91 in 2010.

All this adds up to $126,086.14.

I think he better hit Bryan Williams up for some of that Baby Money. After making Billboard's 100 list, we know they can afford it.

Machine Gun Kelly Arrested & Released In Florida

Late Saturday night (or early Sunday morning), Bad Boy Records artist Machine Gun Kelly was arrested on charges of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and shortly released on $100 bond. MGK provided his take on the situation via Twitter.

"Just spent my entire night in a f*cking Florida jail…sh*t escaladed way to quick last night, it always does with us though," he tweeted. "Thanking God that only half of us went to jail, that @216XPLOSIVE is outta the hospital, and that we get to go back to Cleveland today…

"The weirdest part of it was how many inmates in there knew who I was and knew about the movement. It was some trippy sh*t. Lace the F*CK up. Anyways, thank you Florida for ragin this week. Lookin forward to seeing every state during this spring/summer tour (no more handcuffs tho!)

At least MGK didn't spend too much time behind bars, and may have gained more fans as he prepares to embark on a 90 city tour, with Tech N9ne. While this trip to Florida didn't end well, let's hope once he rages through again on his 'Hostile Takeover' tour that it's more takeover and less hostility involved.

Bleu Davinci kept it 100 and added,

"I like the man music because I always did and that's why i f*cked with him from jump street so I'm not no hater. He also shed some light on T.I.'s gun cases and believes that T.I. didn't snitch on anyone but was working for the "right people."

Drake Says He Won't Respond To Common's Diss Because He Believes The Chicago MC Used Him Just To Sell His Album

It looks like the Common vs. Drake beef is officially over.

When Common spoke to Rolling Stone last week he told them that he wasn't going to fire any more shots if Drake didn't respond to his "Stay Schemin" diss.

"I feel like I said what I had to say, and I'm just going to let it be at that point," he said at the time. "Now, if something else happens, then I'll just have to act accordingly. But right now, I feel like, man, I said what I needed to say about this situation on record."

Now Drake has gone on record saying he won't respond because he feels like Common was only using him to promote his album.

"Despite how it’s been worded by him that situation is not a hip hop moment or a battle for the sake of musical integrity," Drake told Nah Right in a new interview. "It’s a ploy for attention around the release of an album. More than anything it was just disappointing cause what kid isn’t a fan of what Common has done for our genre. A guy who made such an incredible career for himself based off expressing genuine feelings about life and love is now targeting me for sharing my story."

2 Chainz To Announce New Record Deal Wednesday On MTV's RapFix Live

2 Chainz looks like he's ready to do business with a major record label after building a buzz for himself independently.

The Atlanta rapper formerly known as Tity Boi, will visit MTV's RapFix Live on Wednesday to make a major announcement.

The "Spend It" rapper was at one time signed to Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label as part of the group Playaz Circle, along with Dolla Boy. The duo had a major hit in 2007 with "Duffle Bag Boy" which featured Lil Wayne. Now it looks like he's ready to take his solo career to the next level.

"I think I'm gonna come sit on the sofa Wednesday. Me and you got a lot of things we got to talk about face-to-face," 2 Chainz told MTV's Sway. "It should be a good day Wednesday. I'm coming up to New York and have a few finalized meetings also. Might as well let the cat out the bag."

Machine Gun Kelly Tosses Midgets & Plays With Half Naked Women At Fort Lauderdale Concert, Then Talks About His 2 Album Deal W/Bad Boy & Upcoming Single "Rain" [Video]

Machine Gun Kelly saw both good times and bad while in Florida last week for a couple of concerts. He was arrested, then released for disorderly conduct in St. Petersburg, but not before he successfully performed there on Saturday and in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday.

Mikey T The Movie Star caught up with the Cleveland rapper after his rowdy show at Club Revolution in Fort Lauderdale to talk about his Bad Boy Records deal and upcoming single.

"They gave me full creative control," MGK said if his Bad Boy deal. "I have creative control over everything on my project. It's worked out for me well. They let me grind and they don't hand me sh*t. I don't have a csilver spoon with that label, and that's what I asked for. Puff is a big brother to me. I signed for 2 [albums]."

MGK's "Wild Boy" single with Waka Flocka has been making some noise. He's getting ready to follow that up with the release a new single entitled "Rain."

"A song called Rain [is my next single]. I'm really excited about that song. It's a deep song," he said. "It's the opposite of Wild boy. A very revolutionary, rebellion type of message."

Check out the rest of the interview and wild concert footage below.

Young Money Rapper Cory Gunz Released From Jail After Posting Bail On Gun Charge

Cory Gunz is a free man this morning after his father, Peter Gunz, posted his $30,000 bail. The 24-year old posted several messages on Twitter once he was home and expressed remorse for his arrest on a gun charge.

"Lock My Body, Kan't Trap My Mind," he wrote on the social networking site. "I apologize to all of my Supporters, Friends and Family. Things Happen, No excuses. My only regret is letting ya'll down... Peace."

Corey, born Peter Cory Pankey Jr., was arrested in the Bronx, New York Saturday when plainclothes cops responding to a fight in the area apprehended him when he exited a cab and found a loaded, unregistered Taurus .9mm handgun in his backpack as well as a face mask reports XXL.

"This was a big mistake on my part," Gunz told the New York Daily News after his release. "I didn't have any intentions of harming anyone or committing a criminal activity. So many young people look up to me and I need to fight though this."

New York has notoriously strict gun laws. Lil Wayne, who signed Cory to his Young Money label last year spent 10 months locked up in Rikers Island in 2010 on a gun charge. Prodigy of Mobb Deep was released from prison in March 2011 after serving 3 years on similar charges.

One of the rapper's biggest supporters is Nick Cannon, who executive produced Cory's MTV show "Son of a Gun." Cannon tweeted that he would be there for Cory if needed.

"Great dude, just a little bad luck. @CoryGunz is holding strong and will be out shortly. Family is here if and when anything is needed," Cannon wrote.

Peter Gunz said he believes his son was searched illegally.

"It was definitely an illegal search," Peter said. "He just got out of a cab and police ran up on him and they were in plainclothes. He didn't know they were cops - he thought he was getting robbed."

If convicted, Cory faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three and 1/2 years.

Big Fendi, The Man Who Launched Nicki Minaj's Career On Come Up DVD Goes In On Her For Not Compensating Him. Clowns Gravy, Says Diddy's Dirty Money Group Name Belongs To Him [Video]

Big Fendi, the owner of Come Up DVD fires all kinds of shots in the trailer for the next volume in the series.

Doggie Diamonds of www.ForbezDVD.com interviews Big Fendi, to get the real story behind his conflicts with Nicki Minaj, Jordan Tower, Gravy, Diddy and more.

Fendi goes in on Nicki Minaj for never compensating him for helping to launch her career. If you search youtube, you will see that before Nicki Minaj changed her image into the Young Money pop star she is today, she was featured on several Come Up DVD music videos as a hardcore rapper. According to Fendi he introduced her to Waka Flocka's mother Deb Antney, who became her manager for a while.

"Everybody know this DVD right here started Nicki Minaj's whole career," says Fendi. "I changed her name, I changed her image. Me and Nicki Minaj was arguing because I wanted her to be the sex symbol, talk about p*ssy and get n*ggas open, and she told me I was disgracing her name. But she [now] still talks about p*ssy and a$$, a$$, a$$. So is she following my blueprint? I gave her to Debbie [Antney] on some management sh*t--Waka moms and sh*t went left after that. Nicki goes to Atlanta and becomes a new Nicki after that. Debbie started questioning me as far what I ever did for her. So now, Nicki hanging out with Debbie," Fendi continues. "I call Nicki to tell her about my birthday party coming up. Nicki started telling me I need to holla at Debbie. Nicki piggybacked off Debbie to get with Puff [Diddy]. Puff aint did no more. Debbie aint did no more."

After all he did for Nicki, Fendi said he was expecting some form of financial compensation, but never got any.

"She gave me credits on her album, woopty-f*cking-doo. 'Shout out to Fendi for teaching me everything.' I read that...I was like 'OK, but where the f*ck is the money at?' I'm the reason why Nicki Minaj is with Young Money," Fendi claims. "I spoke to Tez, who's the President of Young Money right before Wayne came home [From Rikers Island]. He was like, 'Yo Fen when Wayne gets home we gonna straighten you out.' N*gga I aint heard from Tez since."

Fendi sh*ts on his former artist Gravy, the rapper who played Biggie Smalls in the movie "Notorious" as being an ungrateful fraud with a fake image.

"Gravy was my son. Like a n*gga that I took care of like mt little boy," Fendi said. "N*gga's jewelry was fake, I got him real jewelry. Anything negative that come out of Gravy mouth about me, n*gga need to smack him for that. Cuz he aint built like that."

Fendi also accuses director Jordan Tower of stealing his videos and featuring them on WorldStarHipHop as his own and says Diddy's Dirty Money group name belongs to him.

Fendi says he will end a lot of people's careers when he releases Come Up DVD Volume 23 on March 3rd.

Drake Says He Wants To Get Back Into Acting By Portraying President Barack Obama In Movie

Drake is looking to get back into acting in a big way by portraying Barack Obama if possible.

The former star of Degrassi: The Next Generation was interviewed by VH1 while attending theSundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah several days ago when he was asked about getting back into acting.

"I was inspired before I came out here," he said. "Now it's for sure."

Drake said that he's mostly offered roles of basketball players and rappers, but is looking for something with more substance.

"I've been reading scripts for a while. I wanna do something great," Drake told VH1's Janell Snowden. "I wanna do a movie specifically for my culture, the younger people who are still in tine with everything going on. I'm actually writing with my friends right now--the have a production company called Be Any Means Necessary. We're writing together trying to figure out the right movie."

According to Drake, the perfect role would be that of America's first African American President.

"I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama's life soon because I could play him," Drake told VH1. "That's the goal. I watch all the addresses. Anytime I see him on TV, I don't change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice. If you ask anyone who knows me, I'm pretty good at impressions."

Songwriter Sues Producers Of B.o.B's "Airplanes"

The producer's behind Bobby Ray's hit single were hit with a lawsuit by a third songwriter who had been snubbed royalties.

It looks like the production duo behind one of B.o.B's biggest hits may be in legal hot water. A third songwriter named Christine Dominguez is suing the production team Kinetics and One Love over the song "Airplanes,"claiming she helped co-write the song and didn't receive compensation.

According to a recent article from AllHipHop, Dominguez claims that she contributed significant portions of the song's melody and didn't receive credit or compensation when B.o.B's hit single dropped.

She says that the song's producers contacted her about working on the song back in 2008. They gave her credit for an alternate version of the song that came out a year later, but was snubbed when they authorized the song's use fore B.o.B's version.

Although B.o.B is not named in the suit, Dominguez is suing the two producers for unfair competition, unjust enrichment, copyright infringement, and failure to account for revenues derived from sampling or other use of the song. She is also seeking royalties derived from CD sales, digital sales, ringtones, ringbacks and more.

Hit-Boy Says G.O.O.D. Music Compilation Will Feature "Amazing Music"

The G.O.O.D. Music producer explains what it was like to record with the crew.

Hit-Boy was recently in London, England with Kanye Westand the G.O.O.D. Music crew to work on the label’s compilation album. Speaking with Complex.com, he recalled kicking it in the lab with Mannie Fresh, Frank Ocean, Jay Electronica, Pusha T, Big Sean, John Legend and Marsha Ambrosius, and how the vibe in the room inspired some cuts.

“[I don’t know if Jay Electronica spit a verse], I was just in my room working on a bunch of ideas Kanye wanted me to do. I really didn’t get to come up there. But Pusha spit a gang of verses to my beats, so did Big Sean, Kanye, and John Legend,” he said. “I know Marsha got on a couple of my beats and did some hook ideas. We were all just bouncing stuff around. Mannie Fresh actually had the room next to the room I was working in. We was bouncing ideas. There was a bunch of creative shit going on with the most talented motherfuckers in the world.”

Hit-Boy said that the crew has more work to do on the project in the next few weeks, but that he promises it will be “quality shit.” “That’s the genius of Kanye, he knows how to put all those people in a room. You can’t have an ego with person like Kanye around. It’s going to be some fly shit and you are going to have the opportunity to make money off it.”

J.Cole Says "Lights Please" Secured His Meeting With Jay-Z, Refers To The Song As A "J. Cole Classic"

J. Cole shares a few behind the stories about "Sideline Story," "Lights Please," and several other "Cole World: The Sideline Story" songs.

For his final video segment with Muve Music Sessions, North Carolina rapper J. Cole spoke on a handful of his Cole World: The Sideline Story tracks including “Cole World,” “Sideline Story,” and “Lights Please.”

On top of stating that “Lights Please” is what he refers to as a “J. Cole classic,” J. Cole also revealed that he had plans on featuring the song on his debut album way before it was even released.

“’Lights Please’ is a J. Cole classic. Meaning that all my fans or true fans that’s really been there for a minute are gonna recognize that song because it was on a mixtape I got called The Warm Up,” J. Cole explained. “I did a show in 2009 in the summertime…and I said it onstage as I was performing the song in front of most of these people [who] didn’t really know me they might have heard [of me]. I was like, ‘Yea I’m about to do this song. I wanna do something for ya’ll it’s called ‘Lights Please.’ Even if I drop my album in 2012 this gonna be on the album.’ I said that not really knowing that my album would really almost drop in 2012. I said it just as a joke, but I was serious. That’s how much I love that song. That’s the song that got me so many meetings in the industry. It got me my meeting with Mark Pitts. Mark Pitts played it for Jay-Z. Jay-Z heard that song and that’s the reason why he even wanted to see me was from hearing ‘Lights Please.’”

While “Sideline Story” may not have gotten J. Cole a meeting with Jay-Z, the song did feature a beat the rapper had been sitting on for almost two years.

“’Sideline Story’ I been sitting on that beat for a year and a half trying to put words to it because I thought that the music was so incredible that was going to be the intro,” said J. Cole. “That originally was gonna be the intro to the album. The music was that good that I was sitting on that for a year like this is the intro. When I would play my album for people I would just play them that beat and say that this is the intro, with no words…And I think the reason why I couldn’t write to it was because I had the pressure of this is the intro on it. Soon as I recorded ‘Dollar And A Dream III’ and decided that ‘Nah, this is the intro’ all the weight and the pressure kinda got off the ‘Sideline Story’ beat. And then it allowed me to kinda put the pieces together on that.”
