Mary J. Blige has been tapped to be a judge on E!’s upcoming music reality competition Opening Act.
According to Deadline, MJB joins American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and Rock Mafia’s Antonina Armato for the show, where the trio will scour the Internet looking for unmined talent.
The goal is to give amateurs the opportunity to open for major acts on tour. So far, artists who have agreed to participate include Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, Gym Class Heroes and more.
TV personality Olivia Lee will break the news to unsuspecting bands or solo acts, who will be brought to Los Angeles for “performance boot camp” and mentoring sessions with industry executives.
Former G-Unit member Olivia is now a part of Jerry Wonda's Wonda Music imprint.
Singer Olivia has reportedly been signed to a new deal. According HipHop-N-More, Olivia has been signed by Jerry Wonda's Wonda Music label. The site also confirms that Olivia will drop her first Wonda Music full length debut Show the World late this year in a joint deal with Dollaz Unlimited.
Jerry Wonda is an acclaimed producer who has also worked with the like of The Fugees. He has also participated in the careers of Shakira, Lupe Fiasco andAkon.
Olivia has been a part of Love & Hip Hop, a VH1 reality show. She first made news by being signed to J Records but was later more known as a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit Records. She became a target for shots by G-Unit rivals including Game who dissed her during his G-Unot campaign.

Obie Trice gives some insight as to why he left Shady Records, and why he feels he's bested Eminem many times.
As the release of his third solo album, Bottoms Up, drew nearer, Obie Trice began hinting at the reasons behind his departure from Shady Records.
In a recent interview with GlobalGrind.com, the Detroit native spoke a bit more candidly on the matter.
"It was just issues with me," explained Obie, neglecting to point fingers. "I missed the Big Boy show out there in LA. And Jimmy [Iovine] had a real problem with that, but it wasn’t just that, though. I was younger, so things were happening that were different."
Obie also recalled when his Akon-assisted single "Snitch" was unable to gain traction, at least in part due to outside circumstances. "I had the Akon single out. MTV wouldn’t play the record because they had the Snitch campaign going on, and things of that sort. And BET wouldn’t play the record because Eminem missed the BET Awards three years in a row. Just a lot of backlash we caught that didn’t have anything to do with us, and we thought things should change about that, that they should have worked the record even harder. There were just a lot of things going on, But shout out to Jimmy Iovine: he gave me an opportunity."
Additionally, Trice, who maintains a working and personal relationship with Eminem, wasn't shy to express his belief that he bested his mentor on numerous occasions. "I body him all the time! I feel like every song we did I bodied him. That's how I feel! That's how I go into records."
Don Cannon and Lecrae link for the commercially-successful emcee's latest breakthrough to the mainstream.
Houston, Texas emcee Lecrae has announced hisChurch Clothes mixtape with acclaimed deejay Don Cannon. The May 10 tape will follow a year where Lecrae headlined the first-ever Christian Hip Hop showcase at South By Southwest. The Reach Records star, who's sold over 100,000 copies of 2010 album Rehab will work with No Malice of The Clipse and producers including 9th Wonder, Boi-1da and S1.
“This mixtape is aimed at the mainstream and is raw uncut Hip Hop,” said Lecrae in a press statement. “This is totally different from my past releases and I hope can build a bridge between my current fans and create new ones.”
Former Aphilliates deejay and acclaimed producer Don Cannon added his connection with, "What interested me was that he feels so strongly about his beliefs and I am the same way. It's something special in music to be able to stand up in this industry and bring the people something different.”
Yelawolf recently announced that he’s working on his sophomore album Love Story, tentatively set for release this summer. During an interview with InkedMag.com, the Shady Records rapper said that the project will heavily feature production from WillPower and Malay, but remained tight-lipped about the guest artists who contribute to the LP.
“The album is called Love Story and I’ll be working with WillPower and Malay, lay money,” he revealed. “I’m definitely not going to give up any features that I plan to have on this project. I’m going to keep everything super low key. As far as my crew just the same crew, same as I always do. The focus of the album is the experience since Radioactive and just putting all that into a project.”
Catfish Billy also addressed the possibility of his Shady Records boss Eminem participating in the project, but said that nothing has been set in stone.
“Well you know it’s Shady Records, and of course that's the homie, so the door is always open. I’m not sure when or if he’s going to be available during that time, but I’m positive that we’re going to be working together on a project. [I] always keep him in the circle because you know it’s important to keep it in the family.”
Lil Wayne has finally settled a huge lawsuit stemming from his hit album Tha Carter III. Producer Darius Harrison aka Deezle sued Weezy for $20 million claiming he produced several songs on the album including "Lollipop."
Wayne initially denied owing Deezle any money, but recently settled the claim out of court according to TMZ.
No financial details of the settlement were disclosed.
Due to his hectic touring schedule and other unforeseen circumstances, Lloyd Banks has pushed back the release date of his highly anticipated 'V6' mixtape.
The Queens MC revealed the information
"Still a few things I have to do with the tape,it's not droppin monday..but soon after!" Banks wrote on Twitter. "I just want it to be delivered the right way. Trust me it's worth the wait! You won't be disappointed."

The music world is still abuzz about the appearance of a Tupac hologram during Dr. Dre's set at Coachella.
Numerous proposals of other deceased music stars ranging from Michael Jackson to Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopez being brougt back to the stage via hologram have been floated around and overall the response of Pac's 'appearance' has been positive.
One person not happy about the hologram was none other than Waka Flocka, who believes that the dead should rest in peace.

Pop megastar Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon, celebrated their fourth anniversary by renewing their wedding vows on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
"Tonight was an incredible night, I can't express how amazing it was to renew our vows in Paris at the top of the Eiffel tower," the 42-year-old singer tweeted Friday. "Thank you so much to all the fans who came out as always and showed their love and support. I love you!"

50 Cent has revealed the release date for his Gangsta Grillz project entitled, The Lost Tape. The G-Unit General announced via Twitter that the tape will drop May 15.
Tupac Shakur's virtual appearance at Coachella not only got people talking, it also sparked an increase in record sales for the late rapper according to Billboard.biz.
Pac's 1988 Greatest Hits album returned to the Billboard 200 charts where it currently sits at No. 129 with 4000 copies sold. All Eyez On Me (2,000; up 95%) and Me Against the World (1,000; up 53%) also saw increases in sales.
Three of the rapper's singles saw sales increases as well.
"Hail Mary" sold 13,000 downloads last week for a 1,530% sales increase. "California Love" sold 11,000 downloads (up 119%), while "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" sold 9,000 (up 881%).
Rihanna and Jay-Z will be the two headline acts in the popular music lineup for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The pair will star in the BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend 2012 (June 23-24) a month before the Games, said organizers of the Olympics cultural festival, releasing the program at a news conference today. Comedians Stephen Fry and Tim Minchin will be among other entertainers cropping up in venues across Britain.
“There will be absolutely something for everyone: from Beethoven to Jay-Z, from Shakespeare to Mike Leigh,” Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said at the news conference in the Tower of London. Leigh is a film director.
The festival organizers conveyed the size and scope of the event.
“The London 2012 Festival will be the biggest cultural celebration in our lifetime,” said Royal Opera House Chief Executive Tony Hall, who chairs the Cultural Olympiad board.
Hall said more than 18 million people had already taken part in 9,000 performances and almost as many workshops.
The U.K. is rolling out dozens of arts events around the Games, which run from July 27 to Aug. 12. Some have been long planned and some commissioned as part of a four-year, 97 million pound ($157 million) cultural program.
Other headliners of Hackney Weekend -- set to draw an estimated 100,000 fans -- areFlorence + the Machine, Jack White, David Guetta and Tinie Tempah.
It looks like Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana's long-awaited project is no more, as Wayne has turned it into his next solo project.
Fans still eagerly awaiting Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana's fabled I Can't Feel My Face album, don't hold your breath. Weezy confirmed that for now, the project has been scrapped.
In a recent interview with MTV, Wayne said that he has moved on from the long awaited project and will be reusing much of the music originally recorded for the LP on his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being II. He explained that while his recent prison sentence definitely put a damper on the initial release time for the LP, it was Santana's own legal issues last year that prevented the duo from finishing it.
"I actually got at [Jue]lz when I got out [of jail] and told him, 'Man, I think it's time we really capitalize on that,'" he explained. "[Now], he can't work how he wants to work because they shut down his studio. I sent him some music and he didn't send them back in the time-fashion that I work. I started putting extra verses on those songs and I've moved on. Now what probably would've been I Can't Feel My Face, has now turned into I Am Not a Human Being II."
Jadakiss says many including his mom didn't think he could grow his hair, so he decided to grow it out for this new album campaign.
Tired of rumors regarding hair loss, Jadakiss has decided to grow his hair out. The LOX veteran recently spoke with MTV2's Sucker Free show about why he has decided to grow his hair out and why he's going to keep it long as a sign of respect to an incarcerated friend.
“One of my reasons for growing it was that a lot of people think my hair couldn’t grow,” 'Kiss explained. “Then I wanted to do a new look with a new album. The ladies say they like it. My mom said she likes it."
One of the people who didn't believe Jadakiss could grow his hair out was his mother.
"My mom didn’t think I could grow hair. I was like, ‘ma, c’mon. What’s wrong with you?' I had a bald head for so long, people think it was by force, not by choice. But we gonna switch it up," he added.

After finding 8,000 records and some vintage beat tapes in an abandoned storage unit, the owner of UHF Records is offering J. Dilla disciples a piece of history.
Late producer/emcee J. Dilla (p/k/a Jay Dee) was a renowned record collector, which he sampled in his decade-plus career with Slum Village, Jaylib and others.The Detroit Daily News has reported that what is believed to be a bulk of that collection is presently for sale at an area record shop.
The collection which is being sold at UHF Records in Detroit's Royal Oak neighborhood includes approximately 8,000 records, ranging in value from common albums to some notable rarities. The store owner, Jeff Bubeck noted that the records were acquired from an abandoned storage unit. In addition to the vinyl contents were numerous cassette tapes, some reportedly labeled "JayDee Beats."
Bubeck claims to have been in contact with Stones Throw Records, where Dilla released albums before his 2006 death from Lupus complications. Bubeck claims to have also contacted the J Dilla Foundation, whom he says has been unresponsive. The store has part of the collection on sale now, following Saturday's Record Store Day retail holiday.
A judge has ruled that lyrics from one of Lil Boosie's songs can be used as evidence against him in his murder trial.
It looks like Lil Boosie's ongoing trial for first-degree murder trial is going to get worse before it gets any better. A judge has ruled that specific lyrics from one of the Baton Rouge rapper's songs are admissible as evidence in his trial.
According to a recent report from NBC 33 TV, Judge Mike Erwin ruled during a pre-trial hearing this past Tuesday that three specific lyrics from one of Boosie's songs can be used by the prosecution to show personal intent in the murder case. Interrogating officer of the Baton Rouge police Alvin Howard says that the specific lines “187,” “murk,” and “cake” are references to Boosie allegedly hiring a hitman to murder Terry Boyd in 2009.
The ruling has not come without some resistance from the defense. Boosie's lawyers argue that not only is Officer Howard not an expert witness in rap slang, but that the prosecution may have altered the lyrics of the track in question and thus should not play the song in court. Judge Erwin sustained both of the defense's objections, but allowed the specific lyrics in question to be entered into evidence.
The name of the song in question has yet to be revealed to the general public. If found guilty, Lil Boosie faces a life sentence in prison.
50 Cent seeks to halt Young Buck's asset liquidation until it is determined what can and cannot be sold.
50 Cent is laying claim to Young Buck's recordings and threatening to sell the assets in his bankruptcy.
According to WSJ, 50 Cent and G-Unit's attorneys indicate that a recent motion to sell Young Buck's intellectual property doesn't disclose the specific assets.Now, Fif is asking a bankruptcy judge to block the sale until it is determined what he can and cannot sell.
“The creditors are left with no choice but to file this opposition to ensure that the trustee is not seeking to adversely affect the creditors’ rights in assets that they own, or in which they have rights and interests,” wrote 50's attorneys in papers filed last week.
50 claims that his label owns 100 percent of Buck's recording rights and has the exclusive right "to distribute, reproduce, and authorize adaptations and all performances in whatever form." He also states that he owns the rights to everything from Buck's professional name to his likeness, and can administer and publish his songs.
The issue will go before a bankruptcy judge next month in Nashville, Tennessee.
Metro Police said rapper Wiz Khalifa was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession in Nashville on Saturday after investigators were called to his hotel room at the Holiday Inn on West End Avenue at about 8 p.m.
Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, 24, was in town to perform atVanderbilt University's Rites of Spring concert, where he was the headliner.
Police said the front desk staff at the hotel called police and reported that they'd received several complaints about marijuana use in room 725, where the rapper was staying.
The front desk staff told investigators that they'd been up to the room and told the rapper and another man, Lonnie Howard, 27, about the complaints, police said.
Once officers arrived and went up to the seventh floor of the hotel, they smelled marijuana, knocked on the door to the room and when the door was opened, they saw the rapper throw a marijuana blunt out the window, police said.
When asked if there was any more marijuana in the room, both Thomaz and Howard said there wasn't, but police later found more marijuana on Howard, police said.
Both suspects later admitted to having the marijuana and were cited for the misdemeanor possession, police said.
They have until May 14 to show up at the Davidson County courthouse for booking on the charges.
According to Thomaz's Twitter account, he left Nashville on Sunday and has been in New York this week.

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed 17-year old Trayvon Martin is a free man after posting 10% of his $150,000 bail on Sunday. He will remain free until his second degree murder trial begins in 2013.
The decision by a Florida judge to allow Zimmerman the opportunity for freedom has angered many Americans, including thousands in the hip-hop community. One man who is speaking out against the decision is Papoose, who made a tribute song dedicated to Trayvon several weeks ago.
“That’s some savage sh*t,” Papoose told XXL in a new interview. “The man could be free and Trayon is in his grave till eternity. Everybody celebrated when they arrested dude, but I think it was premature. This dude is an animal. The whole thing is bullsh*t.”
Like Papoose, several other rappers have made tribute songs dedicated to Trayvon. The unity shown by his peers is something Pap is proud of.

50 Cent is indifferent to a lawsuit over an uncleared mixtape sample.
50 Cent has been sued for using a sample on a mixtape track released three years ago.
According to TMZ, The Persuaders' Robert Poindexter has filed suit in New York over the uncleared use of the group's track "Love Gonna Pack Up and Walk Away" on Fif's "Redrum," included on his War Angel LP.
Poindexter states that the G-Unit general feels as though the release of the track for free gives him immunity from copyright claims. "Fifty Cents [sic] has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defense solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free," he wrote in the suit.
Poindexter is suing for unspecified statutory damages and $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest.

With all of these mixtape sequels happening, we can only hope that albums will ultimately follow. In Chris Brown's case, he has Fortune coming, Tyga already dropped Careless World. However, as we've seen with Juvenile's recent mixtape Nino The Magnificent, sometimes the albums have to take a backseat to the mixtapes.

Rick Ross gets a visit from the cops while on his yacht in Florida.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were seemingly very close to arresting Rick Ross and the rest of the people on the Miami rapper's yacht earlier this week.
TMZ reports that officers flagged down Ross' boat on Thursday (April 19) after noticing the odor of weed.
Police boarded the vessel and conducted a search, but were unable to find anything.
A representative for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission indicated that a member of Ross' crew admitted to smoking weed on board and throwing it overboard when he saw the police.
The representative indicated that because the officers were unable to find any marijuana on board, no arrests were made and there will be no further investigation.
After celebrated works with Punch n' Words and The EMC, Wordsworth drops his first solo album in several years this June.
The EMC's Wordsworth, a former star of MTV's Lyricist Lounge has announced his latest release, The Photo Album, for June 12. The Wordwide Communications 16-song release features EMC band-mates Masta Ace and Punchline, along with Torae. An edition of the album will also feature two bonus songs.
This is Words' first solo album since 2004's Mirror Music. Throughout his career in Punch n' Words and The EMC, Wordsworth has worked with the likes of Little Brother, Ayatollah and Da Beatminerz.
