LL Cool J And Run DMC Considered For Queens Hall Of Fame

City officials hope to recognize Hip Hop's contributions while planning a borough hall of fame.

Queens officials and local business representatives are putting the wheels in motion to bring a hall of fame to the storied borough, and all signs indicate Hip Hop will have a strong presence. The New York Daily News reports officials would like to honor iconic figures such as W.E.B. DuBois and Jackie Robinson as well as Hip Hop luminaries like St. Albans resident LL Cool J—who represents Farmer’s Boulevard and well as his fellow Def Jam co-founder, Russell Simmons.

In June of 2009, city officials renamed Hollis Avenue in honor of Run DMC and the late Jam Master Jay.

“Organizers said the project will rely heavily on research from two Queens News series on significant sites without city landmark status or historical markers, including the ongoing Queens Heritage Quest articles,” writes Nicholas Hirshon of the Daily News. “They hope to run the inaugural induction gala in May in conjunction with a festival - perhaps titled ‘Queens Week’—designed to lure tourists to events at parks, libraries and other borough spots.”
