50 Cent to promote new film 'Things Fall Apart' in Birmingham

Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson will be coming to the Uptown Film Festival in Birmingham on March 12 for a screening of “Things Fall Apart,” which he stars in and cowrote.

This is the movie that prompted the rapper-actor to famously lose more than 50 pounds for his role as a football player with cancer. He went from more than 214 pounds to 160 in about two months through liquid diets and hitting the treadmill for three hours a day, according to the Associated Press.

The announcement of Jackson’s appearance was made today. The festival is a new event designed to celebrate Michigan-made movies and the state’s filmmakers.

“Things Fall Apart,” which was shot in the Grand Rapids area last year, is directed by Mario Van Peebles. Jackson and his producing partner Randall Emmett, who’ll also attend the festival, were both producers on the project.

Jackson is expected to participate in a question-and-answer forum after the movie.

The March 12 premiere at 7:30 p.m. at the Palladium 12 is part of the festival’s VIP package. VIP tickets are available online at
