As recently reported, BET star Toya Carter's husband producer MempHitz was arrested in Georgia Monday morning while attempting to pass through airport security with a 40.-caliber Desert Eagle in his carry on bag.
The aspiring hip hop artist, born Micky Wright Jr., spent a nigh in jail and made his first appearance before a judge yesterday afternoon (August 23) where he was charged with a misdemeanor offense of carrying a weapon in an unauthorized location.
Wright was granted a $5,000 bond before telling the judge the incident was a mistake.
"I just wanted to say to you that I would never intentionally take a firearm to the airport," said Wright, who does have a valid GA permit to carry firearm. "I just forgot that it was in my backpack."
Toya Carter was present in the courtroom but declined to comment.
The former Jive Records exec was released soon after his bond hearing. His reps released this statement.
"Although [Memphitz] does have a valid license to carry the weapon, he had no intention of transporting it on the plane. In his haste to make his flight, he neglected to remove the firearm from his luggage. He has since been released and is fully cooperating with the authorities. He hopes to resolve this matter quickly."
