MARRERO - Danny Rogers, better known as "Lil Dee God's Gift", prides himself on the positive message his music conveys.

The rapper shoots his videos around the New Orleans metro area, "guerella style" as he calls it. Rogers and his friends gather at a chosen spot, Chance Gomez presses record and the finished product ends up on YouTube. They never get a permit to film.

Rogers shot a music video at the Ames Express convenience store in Marrero once before and he had permission from the clerk, so he thought another shoot wouldn't be a problem.

He was wrong.

Rogers and friends got together at the store Sunday night, armed with real, unloaded guns to act out a mock armed robbery.

Someone passing by the store on Ames Boulevard, saw the guns and thought it was real. They called 911.

"We was in there shooting, getting our shots and everything in the middle of the scene and police just ran in," says Rogers. "A cop ran in with his gun drawn and after that, backup just followed."

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputies swarmed the parking lot, arresting Rogers, Chance Gomez, Yonael Santana, Timothy Kelly and Nidal Jamhour for Criminal Mischief. Raassan Holmes, Frank Cheffen and Terrell Hogan face a charge of Illegal Carrying of a Concealed Weapon along with Criminal Mischief.

"This is not smart," says Sheriff Newell Normand. "Had they had the guns out and our officers come upon them, the likelihood is we would have multiple people dead."

The eight men bonded out of jail early Monday. The camera and footage is still in the possession of Jefferson Parish Sheriff's detectives and Rogers has no idea if he'll get it back.

Rogers says he'll be sure to get a permit before he shoots the next video. Source
