Public Enemy Teams Up With BitTorrent to Give People New Music + Details on Digital Track Contest

Chuck D of Public Enemy has been a long time supporter of file sharing. He believes that trying to fight MP3s is like trying to shout at a thunderstorm. Furthermore, he rather put his music in the hand of the consumer for free than those that reign in record companies.

Due to his views, him and his band mates are releases a video for their new track "Get Up Stand Up" featuring Brother Ali via BitTorrent's new Bundle format. It is open to whoever is willing to simply share their email with the group.

In addition to the video, fans will receive 30 acapellas and stems and the ability to make their own Public Enemy mix with the opportunity to have the group digitally release it.

It is actually a contest. From the submitted tracks the band will select nine winners. Five 3rd place winners will get PE merchandise, three 2nd place winners will get merchandise plus equipment from Blue Mics and Native Instruments, and the 1st place winner get it all.

Gary "G-Wiz" Rinaldo, Chuck D's manager and sometimes PE's producer, said the team is not scared of technology. They actually see free sharing as a power move.
