Maino Talks To DJ Kay Slay About Kendrick Lamar & The State Of New York Hip Hop: "There Are Other Kings Of New York. Khaled, Ross,Wayne, Drake. 85% Of The Music I Hear Is Not From Here" [Video]

Brooklyn, New York emcee Maino recently stopped by Shade 45's Streetsweeper Radio to chop it up with DJ Kay Slay about Kendrick Lamar and the state of Hip Hop in New York City.

"It's kind of good that it happened because here we did a lot of d*ck sucking and c*ck licking for a long time," Maino said in reference to Kendrick's "King of New York" line."We lost our culture. It's no such thing as a New York sound no more. Here's a dude from Cali. He had the number one album in the country at one point. He comes here, he sells out Roseland Ballroom. He gets more spins on New York radio than New York artists. If I was doing that in L.A. I'd be the King of L.A. too. From a competitive rap standpoint I see where he was able to say that. If we had our sh*t together as a city then n*ggas wouldn't be able to say anything like that."

Maino added that there were more rappers from outside the city that could also claim the throne.

"It's a couple of other Kings of New York," he continued. "Khaled, Ross, Wayne, Drake. They the Kings of New York too. When I open my window. When I'm in the streets, when I'm in these clubs, when I'm listening to the radio this is the music that I predominately here. 85 percent of the music I hear is not from here."
