French Montana Says He Was Asked To Join Maybach Music Group

French Montana speaks on possibly signing to Maybach Music, explains how he recruited Mase for the "New York Minute” remix.

While Bronx rapper French Montana is currently signed to the mother of Waka Flocka, Debra Antney’s, Mizay Entertainment the rapper is still weighing his options when it comes to other labels.

French Montana revealed to XXL Magazine that he was asked to join Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, but explained that he’s still at a point where he’s working on his own movement.

“He [Rick Ross] asked me to join MMG, so I’m definitely entertaining the idea. I definitely got a lot of respect for his movement, you know what I’m saying? [However] right now, I’m just trying to figure out everything with myself, with my own entity, and my own movement,” French Montana explained. “Then I’ma figure out everything else ’cause there was a lot of things I had to fall back off for me to get my situation straight.”

When asked how he maintains his buzz French Montana shared that the secret to keeping your name out there is by remaining both busy and relevant.

“Man, I just really don’t get all the way into it, I just be working. I’m just staying busy, making a lot of music, and staying relevant, that’s all it is,” said French Montana. “It’s just staying persistent. I don’t really get into the politics, because at the end of the day everybody don’t want me to win. I just stay away from all that and stay working on my music and everything that I got to do.”

French Montana also spoke on his collaboration with Mase and how he was able to recruit the usually low-key rapper for the “New York Minute” remix.

“He just hit me out of nowhere one day. I looked at the phone like, ‘Am I bugging?’ Yeah, I was just laughing. Me and him kicked it, man,” said the rapper. “He cool as hell. He loved that ‘New York Minute’ record so, he just jumped on it for me. I made a lot of history, man.”

Lil Wayne's Facebook Manager Talks Online Publicity Tactics

The tech wiz behind Weezy F.'s publicity team explains how he used Facebook to push the YMCMB brand while Wayne was in jail.

With the Internet having become the dominant form of publicity in music, having a presence on blogs and social media networks is paramount to an artist's success. Last year proved especially difficult for Lil Wayne's camp, asthe Young Money honcho's incarceration largely kept Weezy out of the public eye. That is, until 21-year-old Mazy Kazerooni joined the YMCMB team as Weezy's Facebook page manager.

In a recent interview with NPR, Kazerooni reveal how he managed to keep up online presence despite being on lock-up. He explained that he utilized Facebook to reach out Wayne's 30 million-plus fans, from merchandising to music updates to even earning Weezy a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most "Likes" in a day.

"He had a million fans sitting on his page, and no one had access to it," he explained. "No one even really knew what Facebook was, on his team. I had to argue with them for like a month to give me the information I needed to get the access. Now, there's a lot of attention being paid to what's happening online."

Kazerooni also discussed how he used Wayne's incarceration to his advantage. He said he made sure to re-post fan letters sent to Wayne at Riker's Island and his written responses on Facebook, creating a sense of fan engagement and community among his fans

"While he was in jail, we had an address so people could send him letters," Kazerooni said. "He'd write back to some of these letters. I would post all that stuff on Facebook. We just kept everyone engaged throughout the whole process."

Check out the full article to read about Kazerooni's involvement in Ustream and how his work with the company prepared him for the big leagues in the rap game.

Bruno Mars Suing Music Publisher Over Contract

The hit hook-man for B.o.B. and Bad Meets Evil is taking his music publisher to court over his contract with the company.

Despite having a platinum album with his 2010 debutDoo-Wops and Hooligans, things aren't so cheery for pop sensation Bruno Mars. According to TMZ, Mars is now suing his music publisher over his current contract with the company.

The hit crooner behind B.o.B.'s "Nothin' On You" and Bad Meets Evil's "Lighters" recently filed suit against Bug Music, Inc. for violating the stipulations of his contract. Documents from the Los Angeles County Superior Court indicate that Bug Music refuses to let Mars out of his contract, even though Mars claims he had completed the requirements of his contract.

According to Mars's contract, Bug required the singer to deliver a set amount of music before he could terminate his contract. Following the completion of this stipulation, Bug had a specific period of time during which they could offer to renew their contract with him.

Mars claims that he had delivered Bug with the required amount of music this past February, but that the company failed to renew his contract within the time limit, thus ending his contract. Bug claims, however, that Bruno Mars has yet to complete his assigned contract, which gives them access to 50% of the copyrights to his music.

The Game Covers L.A. Weekly [Photos]

The Game is the latest feature  for an issue of L.A. Weekly after nabbing their August/September cover story.
The Compton rapper real name, Jayceon Taylor posed for a photoshoot for the mag complete with models completely covered in gold paint and straddling him, for artistic expression of course.
In addition to the photoshoot, Game sat down for an interview and lashed out at critics who accuse him of not making hit records.
"F*ck radio, I don't give a f*ck if radio plays my shit once. I've never been a radio artist. Everyone on the radio flops. I don't want to be in that category. I want to go platinum."
In addition to radio play, Game also spoke on his initial meeting with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, as well as his background as a Piru Blood gang member.

GLAAD Upset At MTV For Allowing Tyler The Creator To Win An Award

GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has issued a statement addressing Tyler, The Creator's recent win for Best New Artist at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

The organization claims that MTV should be more responsible in educating viewers on the homophobic slurs and misogynistic lyrics found in contemporary music.

“Rather than providing simply a larger platform, MTV and other networks should educate viewers about why anti-gay and misogynistic language has no place in the music industry today,” said Senior Director of Programs, Herndon Graddick. “Given Tyler's history of such remarks, viewers and potential sponsors should refrain from honoring homophobia and in the future look to a more deserving artist.”

This is just one of many times Tyler has found himself in the line of fire from Gay activists groups, as earlier this year many protested in front of one his shows.

Sara Quinn from the indie duo Sara & Tegan also spoke out against Tyler the Creator earlier this year, stating:

“It is not without great hesitation and hand wringing that I enter into the discourse about Tyler, the media who glorifies and excuses misogyny and homophobia, and the community of artists that doesn't seem remotely bothered by it. I can only hope that someone reading this might be inspired to speak out. At the very least, I will know that my voice is on the record.”

President Obama's Uncle Arrested For Drunk Driving, Held By Immigration

We're going to need President Barack Obama to get his people under control...

According to reports, President Obama's uncle was stopped on suspicion of drunken driving, told police he planned to arrange bail through the White House and was being held without bail by immigration officials.

Reports state that Onyango Obama was arrested last week in Framingham, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, after police said he made a rolling stop through a stop sign and nearly caused a cruiser to hit his sport utility vehicle.

MSNBC.com reports:

Police said that after being booked at the police station, Obama was asked whether he wanted to make a telephone call to arrange for bail.

"I think I will call the White House," he stated, according to a police report filed in Framingham District Court.

Police said Obama, who's originally from Kenya and is the half-brother of the president's late father, pleaded not guilty Friday and was being held without bail on a detainer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a court document, ICE said he had an earlier deportation or removal order.

Obama, 67, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way.

Onyango must have thought namedropping the President would be a "get out of jail free" card.

China Bans Music From Kanye West, Beyonce, Lady Gaga

Beyoncé, Kanye West, Katy Perry Songs Banned In China

If Beyonce Knowles-Carter still plans to run the world, she may have to exclude China from the equation.

According to RTE.ie, Beyonce's "Run The World" is one of a hundred songs banned by the Chinese Ministry of Culture on Friday.

Katy Perry's "E.T." featuring Kanye West was also banned, along with Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory," "Hair," "Marry The Night," "Americano," "Bloody Mary" and Judas," making Gaga the most banned artist on the list.

Gaga's "Born This Way" was banned on a previous list.

From RTE.ie:

The Chinese Ministry says that these bans are not related to content, but instead reflect a clamp down on internet music providers who are providing access to songs not submitted to the government for review or censorship.

In a statement to CNN the Ministry said: "Our targets this time are online music products that we have not registered or reviewed. They don't necessarily contain illegal content."

Rick Ross Being Sued For Using Another Rapper's Name

Rick Ross is back in legal issues, this time referring to the name of his album "Teflon Don."

Last year, Rick Ross was forced to settle a trademark infringement lawsuit with former drug boss Ricky “Freeway” Ross, and now the Maybach Music Group CEO is at the center of another trademark suit over the title of his popular 2010 album Teflon Don.

Rapper Teflon Don (born Donald Askey Jr.) alleges that Ross, along with DJ Khaled, Universal Music Group, Slip-N-Slide Records, Def Jam Recordings and Maybach Music Group are all guilty of “trademark infringement, common-law trademark rights, trademark delusion, unfair competition, tortious interference and fraud and identity theft," for illegally using his name.

Askey Jr. claims that back in 2007, he was involved in projects with DJ Khaled who specifically called him out by name on the track “I Represent,” (Coast 2 Coast Mixtape Vol. 10) saying, “To my homie Teflon Don, we the best…”

"I'm building a name, I'm building a brand and for someone to come with an album and an alias the name Teflon Don and they have big budgets to put behind it, it blocks me from progressing,” he added. “I was climbing the ladder and it feels like I went straight downhill and I don't feel like that's fair."

Game & Lil B End Beef On Twitter

Lil B and the Game, who recently exchanged disparaging thoughts on each others careers leading to the start of a small beef, have apparently settled their differences on Twitter. We think.

Friday, (August 26) Lil B tweeted, “go xop that @thegame RED – Lil B.”

Game responded, “Based god is a real stand up mothaf*cka 4 dat. Just 4 dat, Memphis Bleek da wackest rapper now.”

Followed by, “Real N*ggas Do Real Things – lil g

The small beef started a couple of weeks ago when Game named Lil B as "the worst rapper ever" when asked his opinion on the matter in a video interview with DJ Vlad.

When asked about Game's list a few days later, Based god dismissed Chuck as “irrelevant.”

After hearing this Game tweeted, “N*gga been beat up on camera once already in his own hood. #RespondAccordinglyB*tch*ssN&gga

He then threatened Lil B wit physical harm.

But now, all seems to be well.

Jim Jones Disses Lil Wayne Over Gang Affiliation, Tight Pants

Jim Jones is firing subliminal shots at Lil Wayne, a day after Tha Carter IV rapper hit the stage at the VMAs.

Late Sunday, Wayne took the stage to close out MTV's Video Music Awards and performed his tracks "How To Love" and "John" in a pair of tight seemingly leopard print pants.

The pants obviously distracted from the Young Money head's performance, so much so that a Twitter account for them has been made: @Waynes_Jeggings.

The creator of the Twitter account wasn't the only one who thought Lil Wayne's choice of attire was funny, Jim Jones also took a subliminal shot at the rapper for the look tweeting,

Jim also made sure to fire a shot at Wayne for his reported Blood gang affiliation saying,

Billboard Predicts Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV' Could Move Between 700,000-850,000 Copies 1st Week

Despite leaking several days early 'Tha Carter IV' is doing big early numbers for retailers.

Billboard is reporting that Lil Wayne's latest album could move between 700,000-850,000 by the end of it's 1st week. Those numbers would make 'C4' second to only Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' for debut week numbers in 2011.

Mack Maine Says Young Money Not Worried About 1st Week Sales Of Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV'

'Tha Carter IV' finally hit store shelves. The disc is expected to do big first week numbers. Whether those numbers come anywhere near Weezy's platinum out of the gate success of his 'Tha Carter III' cd is anybody's guess.

One thing is for certain, this album doesn't have the same buzz as 'Tha Carter III.' And some of the early reviews have not been kind to the man that many people considered to be the best rapper alive at one point.

None of that bothers Young Money President Mack Maine.

In an interview with XXL, Maine said that YMCB isn't worried about first week sales. Instead they are focused on working the album over the long haul.

“People have gotten away from working a record," Mack says. "[Record execs say] 'you better do good your first week. If your first week numbers are not good, we gonna move onto another artist.' With Nicki, we’re on our seventh or eighth video on Pink Friday... we working!”

The label plans on using the same approach with Wayne's new album.

“[Wayne] actually told us if he don’t do those same numbers again as C3 don’t be mad,” Mack admitted. “I told Nicki—she was kinda nervous about her first-week sales—I said, ‘First week sales don’t matter.’ I’d rather my final sales matter. I know albums from Juvenile 400 Degreez to Beiber’s first album sold 20, or 30,000 the first-week and went onto sell 2 million one album then 6 million on another album. I saw Gaga did the 99 cent thing [and] then [her] second-week it did like 175,000. Congratulation as it relates to her. With Wayne, I don’t want him to sell a million the first-week, [and] then drop to 100,000 the next week then 50,00 the following week. I’d rather sell ten times platinum total."
