RIP - Underground Rap Star Michael "Eyedea" Larson Dead at 28‎

Rapper Michael “Eyedea” Larsen died suddenly Sunday morning (October 17), a mere month before his 29th birthday.

The singer/rapper had been a staple in the underground scene for over a decade.

According to reports, his mother, Kathy Averill, found his body early in the morning.

“It is with great pain and sadness that I tell you my son Mikey (Eyedea) has passed away,” Averill wrote on Facebook.

The cause of death for the St. Paul, Minnesota native remains unknown and his mother requested privacy.

"At this time we kindly request your respect and our privacy as we process this devastating loss. On behalf of Mikey's family, close friends and fans, thank you."

Eyedea was a longtime member of the Rhymesayer crew and had won a number of rap battles.

One of his most acclaimed victories included the HBO-televised Blaze Battle in 2000 and Scribble Jam in 1999.

About Michael "Eyedea" Larson:

Larsen made a name for himself while in his teens, competing at battle-rap competitions around the country, including Ohio's Scribble Jam, where he took top honors in 1999. He and his childhood friend, Max Keltgen (aka DJ Abilities), also joined Minneapolis' top-name hip-hop act Atmosphere in the late-'90s as its backup rapper and turntablist, respectively. They went on to record three albums as Eyedea & Abilities for Atmosphere's homegrown label, Rhymesayers Entertainment, including last year's "By the Throat."

Eyedea had one of the most rapid deliveries and fastest minds of any rapper in town, and now Micheal Larsen will be known for leaving us way too quickly.

Condolences Go Out To Michael Larson's Family & Friends in this tough time.
