Thurzday (Of U-N-I) Releasing L.A. Riots Inspired Album [Video]

Thurzday (Of U-N-I) Releasing L.A. Riots Inspired Concept Album
Yannick “Thurzday” Koffi, one of half of the Los Angeles rap group U-N-I, is gearing up to release his debut solo based on the Rodney King riots of 1992.
The LP entitled, L.A. Riots, is a concept album inspired by the 19th Anniversary of the Rodney King verdict and ensuing L.A. riots., which took place for six days from April 29th to May 4th in 1992.
Along with the album, which is also inspired by the recent North Africa uprisings, the L.A. rapper plans to release a short documentary entited, Rodney King Evolution, which gives Thurzday's perspective and a reenactment of the Rodney King beating.
The Rodney King beating is one of the most storied acts of police brutality in U.S. history.
On March 3rd, 1991, King was badly beaten by four LAPD officers. The assault was seen by a bystander, who filmed the incident from a distance.
The video footage was later aired by news channels worldwide, which caused public outcry and racial tension in L.A. over police brutality.
In 1992, the four LAPD officers accused of beating King were tried in a state court. Three of the officers were acquitted, while the jury failed to reach a verdict on the fourth officer.
The verdict triggered citywide riots resulting in 53 deaths, 2,383 injuries, over than 7,000 fires, 3,100 damaged businesses, costing Los Angeles close to $1 billion in financial losses.
A preview of Thurzday's Rodney King Evolution documentary is posted below. His L.A. Riots album is due out this summer.
