1 Dead, 1 Injured After Man Shoots Couple Over Texting In Movie Theater

A man in Tampa, Fla in custody after he gave a moviegoing couple a reprehensible penalty for texting and talking through a movie preview.

According to eyewitness accounts, a man was texting during the previews for Mark Wahlberg's film, Lone Survivor when an angry patron in front of them turned around and shot and killed him and wounded his girlfriend. The shooter was then detained by another man in the theater until authorities came.

The Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco says the fatal act of ridiculousness occcured at the Cobb Theatres Grove 16 & CineBistro in Wesley Chapel.

Via CNN:

"There was an altercation because the victim was using his cell phone. He was texting. He was making a lot of noise," Nocco said. "This led to a verbal altercation, the verbal altercation escalated."

The suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the man and the woman, who has non-life threatening injuries, with him. The sheriff said it was unclear if the shooter meant to hit the woman.

"There was no indication that they knew each other," he said of the two couples. He said the shooting occurred during the previews to a movie.

To make matters even more puzzling, the shooter was said to be there at the movie with his wife. It's a ghastly reminder to the events that transpired in Aurora, CO when James Holmes allegedly killed 12 people and wounded 70 others in a rampage shooting during the premiere for The Dark Knight Rises.

Who knows what the world is coming to.
