Will Smith Not Returning For Independence Day Or Men In Black Sequels

Coinciding with earlier reports and wishful thinking, Will Smith will not be reprising his role in the long-delayed Independence Day sequel, dubbed ID Forever.

This time it's reportedly coming from the horse's mouth.

The 1995 summer blockbuster grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide and catapulted Smith amongst Hollywood's A-lister elite, but The Fresh Prince apparently has been there, done that.

Reports Huffington Post:

An anonymous source tells Deadline that Smith has informed Fox he is not on board for the follow-up to the popular sci-fi flick. The early reports indicate Smith has not yet officially broken the news to director Roland Emmerich, who previously said the actor's involvement was "looking good" despite the fact that he's "too expensive" and "too marquee." (HuffPost Entertainment reached out to Smith's rep for confirmation and will update this post upon hearing back.)

Deadline is also reporting that Smith is avoiding the next Men In Black film like an alien plague, per Sony Pictures, who are looking to give the franchise a fresh start.

The good news is another Black face in Michael B. Jordan is a frontrunner for the ID lead.
